Calexico

Calexico spent a night at Schubas on February 2nd of 1997. Supporting the American release of their debut album Spoke (Quarterstick), this would be the one and only time that Calexico would play Schubas. Don't fret, the reason they never visited again is because they became so big, so fast that we just couldn't accomodate the converted. With The Black Light in 1998, Calexico met with critical acclaim and a rapidly expanding fanbase, leading to tours with high profile acts (Pavement, Dirty Three, Lambchop) and festival gigs such as the Bonnaroo Music Festival, the Hurricane Festival and All Tomorrow's Parties. With five albums and fans throughout the world, Calexico may never come back to Schubas, but all in attendance that night will often return to the memory of a great show at Belmont & Southport, February second, 1997.
