Kings of Leon played to 100 people (many of them here for the opener,
Catfish Haven) at Schubas on March 30, 2003, just before they released their RCA debut
Youth and Young Manhood (which NME declared "
one of the best debut album of the last 10 years." The Kings went on to tour with The Strokes and U2, play the Leeds Festival in Leeds, UK, see their album
Only by the Night named the UK's third-biggest selling album of 2008, have a number 1 hit single in the UK and Ireland with
Sex on Fire, and headline 2009 festivals including Reading & Leads, Sasquatch, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and more. Grant Park is, well, one heckuva lot bigger than Schubas and so is the draw Kings of Leon now command. When they weren't an international sensation, however, Schubas is where they came to play.
