Two years before signing to major label Epic Records, six years before Good News For People Who Love Bad News went platinum, seven years before being nominated for Best Rock song ("Float On") and Best Alternative Music Album (Good News...) Grammy Awards, eight years before legendary Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr joined the band, and nine years before We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank debuted at number one on the Billboard Album Chart, Modest Mouse played Schubas. Supported by Califone, Isaac Brock and company brought the house down, leaving little doubt that they would be doing big things in the near future. By 2004, their fanbase had grown so substantially that Schubas could only accommodate a packed listening party for Good News..., but we were glad to have them back, if only in spirit.
