Spoon
Though the majority of our Hall of Fame entries honor bands which played Schubas before they hit it big, sometimes it goes the other way. We are always honored when a band wants to do something special for their fans in Chicago and play a more intimate venue than they're accustomed to, and Spoon did just that with a secret show on July 13, 2007. Supported by Chin Up Chin Up, Spoon had just watched their latest album, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (Merge), debut at number 10 on the Billboard Top 200 when they took our stage. The band has played many late night talk shows, such as The Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and Last Call with Carson Daly, as well as the PBS program Austin City Limits, and received critical acclaim for their recordings and live shows throughout the country. For one night in July, they were the biggest bar band in Chicago.
