The musical vehicle of Chicago singer-songwriter Andy Rosenstein, Clip Art makes dense, brainy pop with graceful harmonies and cinematic textures. Swimming in the same waters as the White Album, Graceland, and Summerteeth, Clip Art’s songs are eclectic and impassioned. They are meticulously arranged, and then sculpted down to their pure tuneful essence. The lyrics present a darkly humorous, but ultimately sympathetic look at the world.
Since releasing the “Broken by Design” EP in 2010, Rosenstein (guitar, Wurlitzer, accordion) has assembled the nimble, understated group of James Johnston (guitar), Steve Schuster (bass) and Mike Holtz (drums) to enhance the rhythmic drive and execute the tight interlocking lines of his compositions. Rigorously rehearsing their harmonies and refining their arrangements in between Rosenstein’s tours as keyboardist for JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound (Bloodshot Records), Clip Art is ready to connect the dots between recording and performing, orchestration and simplicity, tradition and progress, art and pop.
