A sold-out 300-date world tour over the last 18 months has brought The Parlotones to the attention of music fans in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Benelux, Russia, the US and the UK – where they packed out 1000+ capacity venues by word of mouth alone.
After heading to Australia for the band’s first performance down under at the One Movement for Music Perth festival, the band’s homeland crowd was able to see their most beloved rock band at Cape Town’s Grand West Casino amphitheatre and at the Dome in Johannesburg. The latter was packed with 12,000 fans who helped the Parlotones make history (first time a South African band headlined this venue) and close their biggest global tour yet."
From their origins in Johannesburg, South Africa, the rock 4-piece have achieved multi- platinum-selling status in their home country, selling more records than Coldplay, The Killers and Oasis together. They are now set to conquer these shores with their darkly romantic lyrics, atmospheric pop structures and ambitious live show which have been earning a rave response from fans and critics alike. Their recent secret warm-up show in Kentish Town, London attracted nearly double the capacity of the venue, forcing the band to access the stage by climbing over the bar.
In their home country, the band’s profile is such that they were chosen to play the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, Africa Day and at Live Earth. Their innovative, big-production music videos have been nominated for MTV awards and The Parlotones won two awards at the prestigious ISC (International Song Contest), in the US, judged by the likes of Robert Smith, Tom Waits and Rob Thomas.
