After an eight-year hiatus, Chicago-based band, Verbow- Jason Narducy (vocals, guitar), Alison Chesley (cello), Lennie Dietsch (bass, vocals), and David Suycott (drums)- returns to the Schubas stage to celebrate the CD release “Verbow Live At Schubas,” a compilation of live recordings from 1998 and 2001. The 1998 show was originally aired as a WXRT Sunday Night Concert. The release includes the singles “Holiday” and “New History,” both heard on WXRT upon their original release. "Bittersweet guitar pop in the grand tradition of Big Star and Sugar... Verbow makes a rich, emotionally textured acoustic/electric noise... The airwaves can always use literate, heartfelt rock songs and 'New History' is that in spades." - Billboard, July 2000
Verbow signed to Epic Records in 1996 and released two records, “Chronicles” (1997) and “White Out” (2000). Although they never sold enough records to make the record company take notice, they were fortunate to have many of their musical heroes ask them to tour with them, Bob Mould, Frank Black, John Doe, and Morrissey among them. They also toured with Ben Folds Five, Travis, and Counting Crows even though they were not their musical heroes and Ben Folds was kind of a dick.
When Verbow toured for eight months in 1997, the record that got the most spins in the tour van was Guided By Voices’ “Mag Earwig.” They are thrilled that Doug Gillard, guitarist for the now defunct Guided By Voices, will be joining them for this show. Doug will be performing with his band supporting his solo record "Call From Restricted."
