Chicago power-trio King Sparrow’s take on punk influenced pop music is centered around lead singer and guitarist Eric Georgevich, whose infatuation with Delta blues singer Robert Johnson and the more darkly scented, old-world Slavic melodies he often tapped his foot to as a child led him to develop a vocal style unique to the rock world. The band sounds like a loud, guitar heavy, rhythmically succinct band fronted by a crooning rock and roller, mixing up-tempo rock with more laid-back vocals and lyrics with an old-time mystic feel. The rest of the band, which formed in Chicago in 2008, consists of high school friends and long time band mates’ bassist Sean Price, and drummer John McGeown.
Drawing inspiration from the city of Chicago itself and a wide range of genres including rhythm and blues, punk and such bands as Fugazi, The Stooges, Jawbreaker and The Kinks, the band began writing their music with a strong emphasis on the raw emotion and energy of their live performances as well as a keen sense of melody.
