05/13/2008 Backstage Interview with Lykke Li, Chicago Culture Safe For Now, Wilco Loft Visit

http://www.schubas.com/news.aspx?showarticle=246

Backstage Interview with Lykke Li!

We'll have our video interview with Lykke Li, conducted right here at Schubas just last night, up for your viewing pleasure before nightfall, we promise! In the meantime, check out the DoucheBagFace live review (including photo set, natch) over at... well, you guessed it, DoucheBagFace, and keep your peepers right here for all that you've come to expect from a Schubas.com Backstage Interview!

Chicago Culture Has Been Saved!

Thanks to the groundswell of outrage over the recently proposed Promoter's Ordinance here in Chicago, savechicagoculture.org is able to report the following:

"WE DID IT!!!!

The promoter’s ordinance is being pulled and WILL NOT BE VOTED ON TOMORROW!

I received confirmation from Alderman Schulter’s office that it’s been pulled. They’re going to return it to committee, so we’ll have to keep our eyes open, but this time there will be input from the entertainment community."

Congratulations are due to all those involved, and a hearty Thank You from the Schubas as part of Chicago's music culture. Keep your eyes on this thing though, it'll be back (hopefully in a more palettable form).

Former Schubas Staffer, Current Daddy Visits the WilcoLoft with Andrew Bird!

Former Schubas sound engineer Jason Tobias recently had the chance to stop by the fabled Wilco Loft with Schubas Hall of Famer Andrew Bird, and he took pictures! As if that wasn't enough, he recently welcomed a baby girl into his (and his wife's) life. It's a good time to be Jason Tobias, we tell ya what! Get all the info from The New York Times.

Don't Like What You Hear? Have You Tried AMPLIFYing it?

Hey, guys! As you should know, Schubas, UR Chicago, WOXY, and Beer Nuts have been putting on periodic shindigs under the name of AMPLIFY New Music Series. Well, the kind folks at UR Chicago have started a podcast of the same name, and the latest entry features SchubaPals TigerCity, performing live for an AMPLIFY Live Session the morning after hitting the New Music Series right here at B-Mont & SoPo. Listen to it here, and subscribe through iTunes here. It's a brave new world, friends, and you are livin' in it.

Bringin' it Backstage for the Fourth Time in Two Weeks!

The latest addition to our Schubas.com News Team, Tyler Gould, sat down with Peter Morén to chew the fat regarding his solo career, Peter Bjorn & John, songwriting in general and house pets in particular. Check it out, and look forward to our chat with the ladies of Northern State on Thursday!

Why is 6 Afraid of 7? Because 7 8 (ate!) 9! In Other News,

El Ten Eleven, set to visit the hallowed Schubas music hall with Presto Descanto on June 15th, provided the majority of the soundtrack for a film called Helvetica. Yes, it's about the font. No, it's not boring. Anyhow, here's a video of them playing music to whet your appetites for the show!

http://www.schubas.com/news.aspx?showarticle=242

The interviews are coming fast and furious lately, and today we're servin' up a tasty little number conducted on the 13th of April with Athlete! We took a load off with members of Athlete in the Schubas Upstairs Lounge to talk about touring; how does it inspire them, how it's different in the U.S. and the U.K., and the power of a milkshake to stir the soul. Take a look-see down below, or just take the audio a la carte in our Backstage section. Hey, while you're back there, why not check out any other interviews you may have missed- we're building quite a stockpile. Up next- Peter Morén of Peter Bjorn & John. Look for it on Tuesday, and have a great day, Schubas WebPals!

Hey, You! Get a Room, Why Don'tcha?! Or, Visit Our (Music) Room on Monday Night!

Gaper's Block has a tidy little posting in regard to Schubas ongoing Friends with Benefits shows, presented by our Practice Space residency program. Headlined by Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, this month-long residency is doin' all sorts of things for all sorts of causes, and cranking out some top-notch music to boot. The poster is nothing to scoff at, either! (Well, perhaps a bit of scoffing is appropriate).

A Grand Ole Live Review

Ahhh, another great show, another visit from Radio Free Chicago! Garin Pirnia handles the prose this time around (<3 u Kirstie Shanley!), letting you know just how grand Grand Ole Party is when applied to the Schubas stage, and you can expect the same high quality of writing and photography you have come to from RFC.

On the Off-Chance You Are a Democrat Reading This From Pennsylvania

Get out and vote, friends!

Southtown Star Won't Blow You Away- But You Know That They'll Stay

Peter Morén of Peter Bjorn & John will be stopping by Schubas for a solo performance supported by Tobias Fröberg on Saturday, April 26th, and the SouthTown Star has an interview with the man himself about his budding solo career, his songwriting methods, and his upcoming visit to Belmont & Southport.
